Projects Using Motion-Controlled Music
Traditionally dance is defined by music. Why can’t music be produced by dance? By designing and creating specific signal flow systems, the synthesis of sound through dance is possible. A Kinect was used in the following projects to retrieve motion capture data. The data was then extracted from the Kinect and manipulated through the use of procedural signal flow to achieve the final sonic output. This allows the user with little or no experience in music or dance to successfully create a musical composition through movement. The goals of these projects are to help channel a person’s inner creativity in a flowing and free manner, to be reactive to sonic and spatial environments, and discover different relationships between movement and sound.
