Sean Nealon - Interactive Musical Systems Designer
A motive is a cell of music that is expanded and developed throughout the composition. Algorithmic composition was used to generate motives. These motives were inspired by Shenkerian Analysis, the Longy Method and my own perspective of theoretical mechanics involved in composition. The motives are generated using five inputs: the tonic, register, bpm, density and off-beat-ness and three outputs: pitch, volume and duration of note. The motive generator will soon be used as a tool for large scale algorithmic compositions.
